Adeline Anderson

March 23, 1937 — December 1, 2021

Adeline Ovedia Anderson, age 84, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, December 1, 2021 at Hawley Senior Living, Hawley, Minnesota.

Adeline was born March 23, 1937 to Melvin Sylvester Spillum and Emma (Anderson) Spillum. She was the third of nine children. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Rollag Lutheran Church. Adeline attended District 3 country school in Rollag through the eighth grade, and completed her high school years, graduating from Hawley High School in 1955. Adeline worked at First National Bank in Hawley from 1955 to 1957.  She married Arvid Anderson in 1957.  The couple moved to California for a short time, but missed their Minnesota roots and returned to Hawley, their permanent home, raising their four children.

Adeline was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and caring friend to all she knew.  Adjectives used to describe Adeline were classy, lovely, and a beautiful person.

Adeline enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and quilting.  She loved to play the piano, sing, and occasionally yodel at home for her family. She played piano by ear, so there was no requested song that she could not play. She was a great cook, and loved to bake, serving delicious meals, especially around the holidays.

Adeline was an active member of Hawley Lutheran Church. She was a choir member for many years, wedding coordinator, ladies church circle, and Bible study member.  She was a member of the Red Hats Society and a Lifetime Birthday Club member.

She enjoyed her afternoon bowling with teammates on the “Rollag Rollers.”

Adeline loved to spend time with husband Arvid, fishing at Lake 15.

Most of all, Adeline will be remembered for her kind heart, tenderness, and easy-going spirit.

Adeline is survived by her two daughters and two sons:  Debra (Arne) Mickelberg, Audubon, MN; Rachel (Mark) Coppin, Fargo, ND; Mark Anderson (Jayne Howell), Roseau, MN; and Noel (Tanya) Anderson, Moorhead, MN.

She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Justin (Kristie) Mickelberg, Madalyn Mickelberg (Robert Bakke), Joshua (Jillian) Coppin, Dana (Lucas) Zipfel, Samanthah Wesner, Jacob Anderson (fiancé Ali Church), Rory Anderson, and Kelso Anderson.

Also, a proud great grandmother to:  Gavin Mickelberg, Jada Mickelberg, Ryder Mickelberg-Bakke, Jaxon Mickelberg-Bakke, and Eli Zipfel.

Sisters and brothers:  Elsie (Gene) Peterson, Lakeville, MN; Donna Nelson, Hawley, MN; Wanda Alonzo, Sacramento, CA; Roger (Nancy) Spillum, Rollag, MN; Nancy (Erhardt) Dallmann, Alexandria, MN; Gloria (Doug) Barth, Thief River Falls, MN; Tom (Gail) Spillum, Rollag, MN.

Adeline was preceded in death by her parents Sylvester and Emma Spillum; brother Sanford Spillum; her husband Arvid Anderson; baby son Arvid Bruce Anderson; and granddaughter, Nicole Coppin.
