Agnes Mary "Aggie" Barta

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Sister-In-Law, Aunt, and Caregiver, Agnes Mary Barta, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, at Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN. She was born on April 9, 1932, to Edward and Dora (Nicklay) Mulcahy in Barnesville, MN.

After graduating from Barnesville High School, Aggie worked at the local grocery store before marrying Virgil Ronald Barta, her beloved husband and soulmate, on May 6, 1954, in Barnesville. Together, they raised three active boys who filled their lives, some might say, with joy and lots of adventure.

Aggie dedicated her life to caring for numerous families, including her cherished grandchildren, whom she adored and supported wholeheartedly. She spent countless hours ironing, making sure her family was well-fed, and laughing at all things Virgil would say/do. She fondly remembered her upbringing in Barnesville alongside her eight siblings, creating countless cherished memories.

Aggie's proudest achievements were her grandchildren: Clint (Cheyenne), Cody (Rachel), Brandee Rothmeyer (Jeff), Cole, Brett (Megan), Joshua (Rose), and Britta Olson (Justin), as well as her great-grandchildren: Jayden, Azariah, Evalyn, Brielle, Jackson, Addison, William, Liam, Lydia, Anna, Declan and Odin.

She is survived by her children Ronald Barta, Richard (Terri) Barta, Randy (Tammi Jo) Barta; brother Eddie (Marlys) Mulcahy of Barnesville, MN; sister Dorothy (Curt) Cook of Dilworth, MN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Barta, parents Ed and Dora, infant brother Curtis, and siblings Berneice Lewis, Donald Mulcahy, Marjorie Stubstad, Everett (Shine) Mulcahy, Lorraine Barry, and Wally Mulcahy.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth for her wonderful care for the past 13 years. We would also like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for all of their care and their support of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth are preferred. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Dilworth, MN. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, following the service. 

Agnes Mary Barta will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her love, kindness with a side of spicy, and dedication to her family.
