Agnes Hornbacher, 95, Moorhead, MN, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.Agnes Elvina Ekness was born on January 28, 1912, in Hurdsfield, ND, to Knute and Bertha Eidsness Ekness. Agnes attended Valley City Teachers College and taught country school in Sykeston, North Dakota. She served as organist for Stavanger Lutheran Church in Hurdsfield. She also played piano accompaniment for the silent movies in Hurdsfield. Agnes married Ted Hornbacher on December 27, 1935, in Fessenden, ND. They lived in several Minnesota communities including Barnesville, Minneapolis, Rochester, Shakopee and Benson, before settling in Moorhead in 1951. Agnes found great enjoyment entertaining family and friends, playing bridge, and spending time at her lake home on Pelican Lake. Agnes was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She belonged to PEO and volunteered regularly at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead. Her husband Ted died on April 10, 1993.She is survived by three sons, Bruce, Detroit Lakes, MN, James Racee, Eden Prairie, MN, and Dean JoAnn, Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, Brad Cori Lopez-Castro Hornbacher, Sara Mark Weintraub, Scott Paige Fillion Hornbacher, Erica Mark Diede, Reid Anne Kvanbeck Hornbacher, Greta Hornbacher, Steven Hornbacher and Katherine Patrick Mineer; eleven great-grandchildren, Maria, Lucia and Ava Hornbacher; Theo, Noah and Samuel Hornbacher; Ryan and Drew Diede; Olivia, Hadley and Brekken Mineer. She was preceded in death by her father, Knute and mother, Bertha; brothers, Nels and Erling, sister, Inga; and her husband Ted Hornbacher.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Eventide, or the Trinity Foundation.
