Agnes E. Natwick

December 16, 1922 — July 21, 2017

Agnes Elaine Natwick, 94, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2017 surrounded by family.

Agnes was the second child born to Robert and Frances Moss on December 16, 1922 in Buxton, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Buxton and graduated from Buxton Consolidated School. After high school she received her teaching degree at Moorhead State College and took a position teaching Junior High English in Twin Valley, Minnesota. It was there she met her husband to be, Herman Natwick, a local farmer. They were married in the spring of 1947 at her mother’s home in Moorhead, Minnesota. Herman and Agnes made their home on a farm near Twin Valley where they raised their four children. Agnes was an integral part of the farming operation, which included feeding the many men working on the farm. She took an active role in Zion Lutheran Women’s organizations, First Lutheran Church of Fargo Women’s Auxiliary, and Twin Valley School District activities. She also taught Sunday School for many years.

In the 1970s Agnes went back to Moorhead State College to renew her teaching certificate and earn a library science degree. For a number of years, she served as a substitute teacher in Twin Valley.
Herman and Agnes lived in the Washington D. C. area from 1985 – 1992 where they owned and operated a black car service. They enjoyed concerts at the Kennedy Center and visiting historical sites. They moved back to Moorhead and remained there until the present time.

Agnes loved spending time with family and was an enthusiast of crossword puzzles. In addition to the daily newspaper puzzle, she was usually working on a book of puzzles. She was also a lifelong avid reader and a member of a local book club. Agnes was an expert Scrabble player who could not be beaten. One of her great adventures was discovering and meeting eight living first cousins during a trip to Norway with Herman in 1997.

She is survived by her husband, Herman, her children Sandra Allan Knoll of Fargo, James Susan, Natwick of Nisswa, MN, Karen Kent Carlson of Fargo and Brian Julie Natwick of Fargo, her sister, Selma Maassen of Tucson, AZ, eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ruth Menzhuber, and one brother, Robert Moss.

A memorial service for Agnes will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Fargo.
