Alan H. Adair

Alan H. Adair, 77, of Moorhead, MN died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, from complications of a stroke.

Alan Herbert Walter Adair was born and raised in East Grand Forks, MN to John and Ethel Lammey Adair. He was into many activities throughout high school, but mainly football and basketball. He also enjoyed riding his Harley with his brother, Burt. He graduated in 1956.

He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served until 1961 as a helicopter mechanic stationed in Greenland and Alaska. Following his service he went back to school and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota in 1964 and his master’s from UND in 1970, Go Sioux!

He went on to teach Speech and English in Warren, MN from 1965-67 and then in Breckenridge from 1967-68. He met his wife, Janice, in Breckenridge and they married in 1968 in Vukku Lutheran Church in rural Foxhome, MN near Janice’s family farm. They made their home in Moorhead, MN where Alan taught at Moorhead Senior High School from 1968 until his retirement in 1997.

Al was a passionate outdoorsman, a favorite teacher to many, expert griller and vegetable gardener and had an opinion about everything. He loved having coffee with his brother, Burt, and enjoyed spending time with his extended family. He created many special memories with his grandsons “Panama” Jack and “Tiger” Ryan.

Alan is survived by his wife, Janice, Moorhead, MN, daughter, Kristi Jon Zentner, Edina, MN, grandsons, Jack and Ryan Zentner, son, Thomas Adair, Littlefork, MN, brother, Burt Elenore Adair, Moorhead, MN, sister, Jacque Adair, Crookston, MN, sister-in-law, Janet Seim, Burnsville, and brother-in-law Kermit Lyngaas, Detroit Lakes, MN, as well as many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Richard Seim.

Visitation: Friday, March 18, from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN

Funeral: Saturday, March 19, at 2pm at The Lutheran Church of Christ The King, Moorhead, MN

Interment: Moorhead Memorial Gardens
