Albert E. Knapper

Albert E. Knapper, 85 of Dilworth, MN passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

Albert was born in Leader, MN on December 28, 1937, to Daniel F. and Alice (Erickson) Knapper. Albert grew up in Leader, MN and went to the country school near Leader. He then went to Motley High School where he graduated in 1955. 

On July 16, 1957, Albert joined the United States Army was stationed part of the time in Germany and was discharged on April 15, 1959. 

On September 2, 1961, he married the love of his life Joanne Pederson and they moved to Dilworth, MN. He was recalled into the army on October 14, 1961. He was stationed in Fort Sill, Lawton, OK until August 9, 1962. 

Upon his release they moved to Moorhead MN. Albert worked for American Crystal Sugar Company for 39 years until his retirement in 1994. 

Albert loved baseball. He played for Motley High School, then for a short period of time for Leader, MN, and then the Moorhead Mallards. After his baseball playing days, he played many years of softball in Moorhead. Another one of his passions was his love of old cars, especially his 1963 Corvette. 

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Dan, and Alice Knapper; seven brothers, Martin, Ernie, George, Harold, Chuck, Irvin, Marvin; and two sisters, Alice, and Marie. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne; 3 children, Melodi Knapper (Rick Kuske) of Glyndon, MN, Becki Jacobson of Dilworth, MN, and Brad (Connie) Knapper of Moorhead, MN; 6 grandchildren, Trista (Josh) Croonquist of Dilworth, Jamie Olson of Dilworth, MN, Lee Gackle (Cleo Mcaplin) of Fargo, ND, Chris (Elaina) Gackle of Wakefield, KS, Diandra (Tylor) Farsdale of Hawley, MN, and Dalton Knapper of Breckenridge, MN; 7 great-grandchildren, Lexi Badal of Dilworth, MN, Logan Gonzalez of Wakefield, KS, Aria Gonzalez of Wakefield, KS, Cash Croonquist of Dilworth, MN, Scarlett Gackle of Wakefield, KS, Bjorn Farsdale of Hawley, MN, and Azalea Gackle of Fargo, ND; 3 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Visitation will continue Friday, November 10, from 10-11 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.
