Alex was born on June 22, 1911, in Moorhead, MN, to Joseph and Elizabeth Veith Kossick. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead. Alex and his brother Leo were instrumental in starting the Golden Gloves Boxing in Moorhead. Alex married LaVere Farnham on June 22, 1933, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead where they made their home. He worked at Uptown Liquors before being drafted. They already had three of their five children before he became the first married father in Moorhead to be drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre in the Philippines. When he returned home, he went to work as a bartender for the Blackhawk bar and Café. In 1955, he bought a license and opened Kossick's Off Sale in Moorhead, which he operated until retiring in 1971. He really enjoyed family gatherings at Christmas. He was an avid golfer and loved living on the lake. He was dedicated to a life of exercise and swimming was one of his favorite activities.Alex is survived by LaVere, Moorhead; three sons, Alex Jr. Connie Audubon, MN, Rodney Sue Melrose, Modesto, CA, Michael Dawn, Hunter, ND; two daughters, Sharon Eugene Schroeder, Lake Park, MN, Rochelle Joe Allen, Moorhead, MN; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, with one great-great grandchild due in November. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Alex outlived his parents and 10 siblings.
