Alfreda A. Blakeway

Alfreda Blakeway, 94, of Ulen, MN, died on December 6, 2021, in Viking Manor, Ulen.

Alfreda was the third child of Alfred and Anna Anderson, born March 12, 1927. She was raised on a farm with three sisters and two brothers in the Hitterdal/Hawley area.

She graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1944.

She met the love of her life, Elmer Blakeway, and they were married on June 14, 1947 in Lysne Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. Side by side they raised four children on a grain, dairy farm. They moved into Hawley in 1992, where they spent their retirement years. During this time they traveled to many places including Norway, Egypt, Greece, Holy Lands, Alaska, Hawaii and went on several cruises. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Alfreda will be remembered for her upholstering, painting, gardening, quilting and baking. She was very well known for her delicious, homemade bread and buns.

One of Alfreda’s favorite things to do was spend time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter, sister, nephews, nieces, in-laws, out-laws and friends.

Alfreda is survived by two sons, Marvin (Carol, friend) Blakeway, Hawley, MN, and Larry (Diane) Blakeway, Hawley, MN; two daughters, Rebecca (Alan) Randall, Sierra Vista, AZ, and Mary Lu (John) Madson, Lake Park, MN; sister, Inez Larson, Rothsay, MN; sister-in-law, Charlotte Haug, Moorhead, MN; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; two brothers, Allan and Arnold Anderson; two sisters, Melpha Mattson and Marlene Duffney; and two great-grandchildren, Dalton Blakeway and Lincoln Blakeway.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Alfreda’s Viking Manor family for their wonderful care and friendship.

Memorials will be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation will be Friday, December 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Funeral will be Saturday, December 11, at 11:00 a.m., in Lysne Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN.

Interment will be in Hawley Cemetery.
