Alice Melinda Anderson Iverson was born to Albert and Magnna Johnson Anderson October 28, 1917 on a farm near Soldiers Grove, WI. She was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at South Kickapoo Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools and married Samuel G. Iverson June 7, 1939, in Mt. Sterling, WI. They farmed the Iverson family farm, rural Gays Mills, WI until Sam's death in 1982; they were members of Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. To this union were born two sons, Stanley, now retired from Concordia College and living in Moorhead, MN and Michael, who passed away in 1966. Alice passed away August 31, 2006.Alice particularly enjoyed her relationship with Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church where she was active in circles and ALCW and taught Sunday School and parochial school. It was one of her greatest joys when former Sunday School students greeted her and talked to her in later years. When her sons were involved in 4-H, Alice was one of the leaders of the Mt. Sterling Hustlers 4-H Club. She loved "doing things" with her very good friends, Rhoda Helgerson and Esther Lester; they were the best of friends, especially after the death of Sam. Some of the things she missed most when she moved off the farm to Viroqua were the birds at her feeder – particularly the chickadees – and the deer and wild turkeys. After some illnesses Alice transferred from Bigley Plaza in Viroqua to Fairmont Assisted Living in Moorhead to be closer to her immediate family and from there to Eventide Nursing Home, also in Moorhead. Her life was extended several years by the miracle of open-heart surgery and a pacemaker, and by the loving care of her daughterì in-law, Dr. Godela Iverson.Alice was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Chistina in childhood, Sam her husband of 42 years and her son Michael. She is survived by Dr. Stanley Godela of Moorhead, MN, granddaughters Andrea Eric Greiff of Moorhead and Margaret Iverson of Arlington, V A, and one great-grandson Aidan, and a host of relatives and friends. The family requests that memorials be directed to Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN 56560 or to Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church, Mt. Sterling, WI 54645. Thanks be to God for the blessed life of Alice M. Iverson.
