Allen R. Bekkerus

September 29, 1936 — June 8, 2019

Allen Roger Bekkerus embarked on the ultimate trip June 8, 2019. Allen born September 29, 1936 had a lifetime full of adventures whether it was hunting moose and elk, in the fields with his dogs chasing pheasants and geese and fishing anywhere there was water from Alaska to Florida. Allen grew up on a family farm north of Dilworth. Attended Moorhead schools, and he served in the Navy on an Aircraft carrier. He met Marlene Melby and they were married in 1956. When Allen returned from the Navy he worked at Anderson Pontiac and in 1960 he, along with his friend Bernel Nelson, founded A-1 Automotive in Moorhead. Al and Marlene had two children, Bruce and Linda Granberg (Steve) both living in Moorhead. Al and his family enjoyed camping and fishing and eventually Al built his dream lake house on Toad Lake. Al loved the lake life. When Al and Marlene retired they wintered in Naples Florida. Marlene passed on in 2016 and Al met a new friend Ernestine Davidson and her family. Al enjoyed this friendship very much and they spent this past winter in Tucson. Al taught hunter safety in the area for many years and was very active in the Moorhead Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed coffee with many local men in the area solving the world’s problems. He was a boy scout and a scout master. Whenever he was on trip he loved to be the cook and no one went hungry. Al was a quiet man full of wit and numerous antidotes that always brought clarity and reality to the situation. Al was preceded in death by his father and mother. Wife Marlene, Brother Don, Sister Marian, Daughter in law Susie Bekkerus (Bruce). He is survived by his children Bruce and Linda (Steve). Grandchildren Robert Bekkerus (Jen), Leah Jaeche (Grant), Brittany Maher (Anthony), and Bradley Granberg. Al also had 7 great-grandchildren, Nick, Ava, Abby, William, Mason, Meila, and Henry. He also survived by special friend Ernestine and her family. Funeral arrangements will be made by Wright Funeral home, Moorhead. Funeral will be Friday, June 14 at 12.00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Visitation will start 1 hour before with burial at Salem Cemetery, Fargo after the funeral lunch. Memorials can be directed to Salem Cemetery.
