Alma Mathilda Nyhus nee Sandberg of Moorhead, age 88, died on June 11, 2005, at St. John's Hospital while on a visit to St. Paul.Alma was born to Olaf and Ingeborg Halvorson Sandberg on November 14, 1916, in Hitterdal, MN. She graduated from high school there and married Clifford Nyhus on October 12, 1940. They lived primarily in Hitterdal where they raised their children until moving to Moorhead in 1962. They loved to dance, especially a waltz. Clifford died in 1978. Alma had worked in the bakery at the south Moorhead Piggly-Wiggly grocery store for many years, retiring 1982. She later moved to her current apartment where she enjoyed caring and supportive neighbors.She is survived by a son, Douglas Winnie, Frankfort, IL; a daughter, Cheryl Nyhus, St. Paul, MN; sister, Violet Bernhagen, Manchester, WI; granddaughter Erika Eric Berg, Columbia, MO, Kirsten Michael Hock, Willow Springs, IL; and baby great-granddaughter, Julianna Matilda "Anna" Berg. Alma was a wonderful mom and grandma, baby Anna was the light of her life.She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, brothers Henry, Hartse and Albert Sandberg; sisters Selma Olson and Jeanette Sampolis.Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th Street SW, Suite 201, Fargo, ND.
