Amy Beatrice (Kragness) Dittmer, 104, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Bethany on University. Amy was the daughter of John and Ingeborg (Lokken) Kragness and was born October 5, 1914 on the family farm near Christine, ND. She was baptized and confirmed in the Richland Lutheran Church, rural Walcott, ND. She attended Eagle #5 and Christine High School where she played basketball. After graduation she worked for area families.
Amy married Benjamin H. Dittmer on June 28, 1937 in Goshen Moravian Church rural Davenport, ND. They farmed near Buffalo, ND, Argusville, ND, and Lake Park, MN, before buying their family farm near Felton, MN, in 1945. Amy was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed WELCA and quilting. She was also active in Birthday Club, Community Club, and volunteered at Bonanzaville cooking rommegrot for Pioneer Days. Amy moved off the farm to Fargo in 1999, and attended Olivet Lutheran Church where she spent many hours quilting. She also made denim quilts and afghans for her family members and friends. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her doughnuts and Norwegian specialties.
Amy will lovingly be remembered by her children, Lee (Connie) Dittmer, Elizabeth (Charles) Richards; son-in-law, Donald Hurner; grandchildren, Craig (Carla) Hurner, Tim McLean, Jodi (Sean) Dianchrist, Jeff (Lori) Dittmer, Jason (Miranda) Dittmer, Sharla (David Knight) Richards, Tami (Scott) Nester; great-grandchildren, Daniel (Hannah) Hurner, Ashley, Reid and Josiah Hurner, Sonja (Nathan) Stang, Tyler and Logan McLean, Zach and Nick Dianchrist, Ian, Emily, Isaac, Aaron and Lucas Dittmer, Kensey and Jeremy Knight, Tanner, Mason and Devin Nester; great-great-grandchildren, Eloise, Adelynn and Maisie Hurner; her sister, Ina Kragness; brother, Vernon Kragness; and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; daughter, Beverly Hurner; granddaughter, Kari McLean; great-grandson, Isaiah Dittmer; parents, John and Ingaborg; brothers, Palmer, Oliver and Julian Kragness; sisters, Oline Bolme, Clara Kragness; and nephew, Peter Bolme.
Amy’s family would like to express out gratitude to Olivet Lutheran Church, the staff at Bethany on University and Ethos Hospice. The love and care you provided was greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 29, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Funeral will be Sunday, December 30, at 1:00 p.m., in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Interment will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
