Ann Frances Deutsch Murphy

Ann Frances Deutsch Murphy, 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born on July 17, 1931, the youngest of 10 children, to Joseph and Julia Doherty Deutsch in Bemidji, MN. At the age of 12, Ann and her family moved to Fargo. She attended Sacred Heart Academy High School and graduated in 1949.

Ann moved to California and lived with her sister, Mary Harty, working as an insurance underwriter for a year before returning to Fargo. She continued her work as an insurance underwriter until her marriage to Daniel Murphy on April 16, 1955 in Fargo, ND. After their marriage, Ann began her career as a loving homemaker and mother, raising their 5 children on the family farm.

Ann and Daniel moved to Moorhead upon retirement, where they resided for 16 years. In 2012, they moved to One Oak Place in Fargo, ND.

Ann was a very devout Catholic and involved in the church. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters and taught Catechism. She was an avid reader and a big fan of the Bison and the Dragons. She was involved in local groups, such as the Red Hat Ladies. Above all, she loved her family most, especially her children and grandchildren. She never missed any of the kids’ games, concerts, or events, and made sure they pursued whatever interested them. She was her children’s biggest fan.

She is survived by her children, Dan Laurie Murphy, Julie Peter Verstraete Murphy, Michael Madge Murphy, Mary Murphy Powers, and Joe Ginny Murphy; grandchildren, Ashley Brandon, Trent, Travis, Patrick, Callie, Rebekah, Marisa, Mariah, Danny, Erin, and Abbey; great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Kenley, Anders, Hayes, and Kenzi; sister, Mary Harty; sister-in-law, Katherine Murphy; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 62 years, Daniel, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation: Friday, September 8, 2017, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN, from 5:00PM-6:00PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:00PM.

Service: Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN at 11:00AM with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moorhead, MN following services at the church.
