Ardyce S. Jacobson, 96, died peacefully on Palm Sunday at Sanford’s Hospice House in Fargo, ND. Ardyce was born August 6, 1923, on a farmstead in Richland County to Olaf and Myrtle Bjerkager. She graduated from Wahpeton High School, then North Dakota State College of Science with a legal secretary degree. She worked for the State’s Attorney Office for a short time. Ardyce married G.R. Jacobson on November 21, 1943, on a Marine base in North Carolina. Shortly after their marriage he was sent over seas and she returned to the Wahpeton area.
In 1945, G.R. and Ardyce began their life in Moorhead, MN. Together they had four children. They were charter members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and she was a current member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, both in Moorhead.
After her children were grown, Ardyce worked as the Volunteer Coordinator for Meritcare Hospital (now Sanford) for 15 years and then volunteered an additional 35 years, mostly on the 3E Intensive Care Unit. She was a member of the Moorhead Country Club until she had to quit golf at the age of 84.
Ardyce is survived by her three daughters, Gayle (John) Albrecht of New Richmond, WI, Diane (Gary) Johnson of Moorhead, MN and Linda Harris of Louisville, CO; one son, Robert (Mary Elizabeth) of Castle Rock, CO; eight grandchildren, Jay (Julie) Albrecht, Kathy Albrecht, Lindsey (Nate) McAlpine, Ryan Johnson, Mac and Walker Harris, Molly (Chris) Mesch and Page (Nikki) Jacobson; eight great-grandchildren, Sam and Emalyn Albrecht, Brule and Hendrix McAlpine, Sophie and Lily Mesch, Palmer and Nora Jacobson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, G.R. (2007); brother, Orton Birchfield (2014); and grandson, Matthew Johnson (1982).
Memorials will be given to the Organ Fund at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
A private memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. A livestream of the service will be available at knowthegoodshepherd.org/privateevents
