Arlene J. Olson

Arlene J. Olson, 83, of Dilworth, MN, died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo due to complications from pneumonia. She was surrounded by her daughters in her final days. She was loved and will be missed by many.

The youngest of 14 children, Arlene Joyce Westphal was born September 9, 1935, in Clyde, ND, to Reinhold and Pauline (Roch) Westphal. Her parents emigrated from Germany and homesteaded in Huron Township near Clyde, ND.  Arlene graduated from high school in Clyde and then moved to Fargo to attend Interstate Business College.  Arlene was united in marriage to Walter Olson on August 6, 1960 and they had two daughters.  Arlene stayed at home to care for the girls while they were young, but later worked at Archie’s in Dilworth and Fryn’ Pan in Moorhead.  Her most enjoyable job was as a greeter at Walmart in Dilworth. Arlene retired on December 2, 2017 after 26 years of welcoming customers with a friendly greeting and a warm smile.

Arlene enjoyed watching old westerns and true crime stories. Over the years she had many fond memories of fun trips with her daughters to Branson, Missouri, Idaho, the Oregon coast and Las Vegas and traveling to Texas and Montana to visit her grandkids.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Walter; daughters Caryel (Kevin) Kruger, Normanna, TX and Paula (Todd) Radel, Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Lane Kruger, Hana Kruger, Jenna Lang and Jeremy Lang; great-granddaughter, Hazel Marie Lang and great-grandson, Finley Graham Anderson;  sister-in-law Jean Westphal, Langdon, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: Reinhold, Mike, Pete, Ernie, Edith, Helen, Olga, Victor, William, Hank, Rudy, Pauline and Elsie.
