Arloine E. Mithun

Arloine Estelle (Sander) Mithun of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Arloine was born to Frank and Linda (Stromberg) Sander on February 5, 1930, in Moorhead, MN. On June 18, 1955, Arloine was united in marriage to her college sweetheart, Calvin Mithun. They made their first and only home in Moorhead, MN. Together they had two children, Michael and Douglas. Cal and Arloine loved to travel, enjoying time together in Australia, Russia, Canada, Europe, Africa and Mexico. They visited all states in the U.S. except Alaska. Arloine loved spending time with her grandchildren Zachary, Jacob and Joseph, often taking them on outings to local museums, plays, concerts and restaurants. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, League of Women Voters and the National Education Association.

Arloine graduated from Moorhead High School in 1948. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College, receiving her teaching certificate in 1952. She began her lifelong career teaching kindergarten in Rochester, MN, for two years. After her wedding, she returned to Moorhead and taught kindergarten in Fargo for many years. She earned a degree in special education from Moorhead State University. She spent the remainder of her career as a preschool handicapped teacher in Fargo, ND, enjoying every day.

Arloine is survived by her sons, Mike of Arvada, CO and Doug (Jessi) of Moorhead, MN; her grandsons, Zach (Julie), Jake and Joe, all of Moorhead, MN; her great-granddaughter, Zoey (Zach and Julie’s daughter); and her great-grandsons, Isaac and Eli (Jake’s sons).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cal, and her parents.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 18, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by her funeral at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo where she will be laid to rest by her beloved Cal.
