Armorel Army E. Arneson

Armorel “Army” Arneson, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, surrounded by her loving family in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Armorel Edythe Bahe Arneson was born in Georgeville, MN, August 17, 1928 to Edward and Alvina Helmstetter Bahe. She graduated from Moorhead High, Moorhead, MN. In October 1949, Army married Col. then Lt. Milton A. Arneson at Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley, MN. Following marriage she joined her husband at McChord AFB, Tacoma, Washington, and traveled with him to Lowry AFB, Denver, CO, Moses Lake AFB, Moses Lake, Washington; to Chateauroux Air Station, France; to Dover AFB, Delaware; to Hawaii, to Clark AB, Phillipines, and to Washington, D.C. Army was President of the Garden Club at Moses Lake, Washington and was instrumental in establishing the first Blue Star Highway in Washington State. She was active in Chapel programs as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and member of the choir at each of the bases on which her husband served as well as active in various Officers Wives Clubs. In Washington D.C., she served on the Board of the Washington Symphony Orchestra, served on the Board of Lady Managers for the hospitals in Alexandria, VA, and served as Chairwoman of the wives at the National Defense then War College in Washington, D.C. Army served as a Volunteer School Nurses Aide for 15 years while Milt was in the service. She also served as a Red Cross Grey Lady at Military Bases for 20 years. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for 20 years and during that time attended the Girl Scout encampments at Adelboden, Switzerland. She served as Sunday School Teacher for 27 years, and as Sunday School Superintendent. She served as PTA member and room mother during the school terms of her four 4 children. She enjoyed golfing and bowling. Following her husbands retirement they moved to Roseau, MN where she served two 2 terms as President of the American Legion Auxiliary while Milton was Commander, as an American Legion District Officer, President of the Hospital Auxiliary for several terms, and as a member of the Hospital Board for two 2 years. Army was instrumental in starting the Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Tea and in making buntings for newborns.

Milt and Army moved to Moorhead, MN from Roseau in 1993. Army was an active member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo ND.

Army is survived by her loving husband, Milt, and their four 4 children, seven 7 grandchildren and one 1 great-grandchild : Debra Parks, Moorhead, MN, Joshua Jackie Parks and Emma Grace Parks, Coon Rapids, MN, and Justin Nicole Parks, Crystal, MN; Barbara JerryYutrzenka, Vermilion, SD, Christopher Yutrzenka, Woodbury, MN and David Yutrzenka, Orlando, FL; Milton Jr. Brenda Arneson, Eric Arneson and Kallie Kay Arneson, Moorhead, MN and Stephanie Arneson, Portland, OR, and Michelle Mike Solsten, Fosston, MN. She is also survived by four 4 sisters, Adlyne Ohnstad, Marilyn Bruce Harris, Lois Horpedahl, and Gwen Dunleavy; in-laws Otto Delores Arneson, Elaine Arnie Turner, Jimmie Marlys Arneson, and Glen Donna Arneson, and many nieces and nephews.
Army was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Sheryl Mahaffey, and a brother Alvin Bahe.

A celebration of Army’s life will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., in Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
There will be a Memorial gathering on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
