Avella Marie Anderson

Avella Marie Anderson, 82, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019, in Hawley Senior Living, Hawley, MN.

Avella was born on March 20, 1937, to Andrew and Marie (Swenson) Anderson. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church by Pastor S.G. Hauge. She went to country school at District 29 West of Rollag. She then attended and graduated from Barnesville High School. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead and graduated in 1959.

Avella married Alfred Nelson, he died in 1959. She married Ernie Gunderson. Ernie passed away in 1978. Ernie and Avella loved to travel and made numerous trips to California. She then married Alfred “Fritz” Anderson. Alfred passed away in 1984. Avella worked a number of years for the city of Hawley.

Avella had many interests and talents. Avella had a pilot license and at one time owned her own airplane. She also laid stone behind her wood stove and her basement at her house in Rollag. She loved working outside and kept a neat, groomed lawn. She also had a very quirky sense of humor. Avella loved animals; she was always feeding birds, squirrels, and especially cats.

Avella is survived by numerous cousins and Fritz Anderson’s Family.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 10:30 A.M., with a visitation one hour prior to the service, at Rollag Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. Burial will be at Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
