Arvid L. Nelson

April 12, 1937 — February 27, 2017

Arvid L. Nelson, 79, of Lake Park, MN passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Viking Manor in Ulen, MN. Arvid was born on April 12, 1937 to Edwin and Violet Gunderson Nelson in Pelican Rapids, MN.

Arvid grew up in Rollag, MN. He attended District 3, a one room school house, until the 8th grade. He then went on to graduate from Hawley High School in 1955. He joined the Army for three years until moving back to Minnesota in 1958. In 1960, Arvid began his lifelong career working in construction. He worked for various companies as a foreman until 1989, when he partnered with Jerry Anderson to form ‘A&N Contractors’ until retirement.

Arvid was an avid outdoorsman and was very involved in the Clay-Wilkin chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. He enjoyed building, woodworking, carpentry, and lawn mowing. He was always very active and didn’t like to sit around. He was a family oriented man, and especially loved his grandkids. He would do everything he could for anyone, especially for his family. If you knew Arvid, you would come to find that his most commonly used phrases were, ‘Mighty Fine’ and ‘Uffda’.

Arvid is survived by his children, Robert Mona Savig, Rodney Karen Savig, David Nelson, Randy Shirley Savig, Arlen LaVonne Nelson, and Paul Terri Nelson; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Faye Nelson; sister, Janice Jerome Mikkelson Vigesaa; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Kim Spillum; and brothers, Henry Nelson and Marlyn Nelson.
