Barbara Newburgh

September 16, 1952 — January 7, 2017

Barb Newburgh, age 64 of Perley, Minnesota, was called to her heavenly home on January 7th, 2017 with her family by her side.

The daughter of Colin and Valborg Krogstad, Barbara Lynn was born on September 16, 1952 in Moorhead, MN. Growing up on the family farm near Perley, Barb took a liking to the great outdoors from the start. As a girl, her dad introduced her to grouse hunting. It is from that moment on that Barb gained a lifelong passion for hunting.

Graduating from Hendrum High School in 1970, Barb went on to marry Bob Jobgen in December of 1972. To their union they were blessed with three daughters: Chrissy, Sarah and Maggie; and a son, Matt. Over the years, Barb’s children—and later grandchildren—proved to be at the forefront of her life. From trips to the family cabin near Bemidji to teaching them how to hunt, one thing was certain: the love she had for them was unwavering.

Known to have a shot that could make most men blush, Barb and her lifelong friend Dee had a women’s only hunting group that became the talk of town over the years. Often harvesting more deer than the men in the family—their hunting tales have become well-known to family and friends.

An avid fisherwoman, Barb reeled in the catch of her life on January 8th, 2000 when she married Jim. Gaining four more children: Jim III, Jon, Josh and Jenni—their families meshed and became one. Over the years Barb and Jim spent countless hours laughing, fishing, duck hunting and enjoying the company of their K-9 companions.

Barb’s natural way of helping those in need was evident in how she lived out her personal and professional life. A bus driver for more than 20 years, Barb was also the school study hall supervisor at Norman County West in Halstad. MN. Her ability to communicate with all ages allowed her to counsel and help numerous students and community members throughout the years. Simply put—Barb had a heart of gold.

After retiring for health reasons, she continued to get outdoors when she could with the help of Jim and her kids. Her step-son, Jon, even made a stool that permitted her to get in and out of the boat launch so she could enjoy time out on the lake—trolling for the big one.

Barb’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who held her dear. She is lovingly survived by her husband Jim of Perley; eight children: Chrissy Erick Burkart of Lakewood, Washington; Sarah Donivan and Maggie Jobgen of Dilworth, MN; son, Matt Jennifer Jobgen of Fargo, ND; Jim Melissa Newburgh of Isanti, MN; Jon Newburgh Jena of Baudette, MN; Josh Newburgh of St. Joseph, MN, Jenni Zahratka of New Prague, MN; 13 grandchildren; sister, Randee Monte Haiby of Hunter, MN; sister in-law, Dee Osell of Prior Lake, MN; brother in-law, Lloyd Canaday of Moorhead, MN; several nieces and nephews and her beloved K-9 companions: Chester, Lucy and Jazz.

Welcoming her home were her brother, Doug; sister, Charlotte; parents, brother in-law, Ernie and her niece, Shauna.
