Barbara Roman, 88, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Barbara was born December 1, 1922, to Steven and Katherine Rotz Barsody, at home near Elk River, MN. Barbara grew up and attended school in Elk River before she started working. In 1938 she met Lawrence Roman and they were married in Elk River on January 24, 1942. Together they lived in Minneapolis and Lawrence was drafted into the service just three months after they were married. He was active during WWII and returned three and a half years later; they were then able to take their long awaited honeymoon. Barbara and Lawrence lived in St. Paul for a brief time before moving to Minneapolis where she continued working at Lehman's. She was a gifted sewer and there she was able to use her skills. In 1957, Lawrence was transferred and the family moved to Moorhead. She worked from home with her sewing talents, raised the children and took care of Lawrence after he was disabled in 1960. Barbara enjoyed baking, visiting, and sewing, but most of all loved spending time with her family.She is survived by her children, William Cheryl, Richard Sandra, Elizabeth Robert Hapka Roman; grandchildren, Walter Natasha Roman, Jessica Tibiatowski, Derrick Tibiatowski; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Dezerae, Brittney, Shantel, Bredan; and sisters, Emma, Katherine, Mary Ann, Virginia, Irene and Roseanne.Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, granddaughter, Victoria John Medina; and brothers, Arnold, Steve and Joe.
