Bernadette “Bernie” Larson

October 5, 1938 — December 24, 2018

BERNADETTE (BERNIE) REGINA LARSON

Bernie Larson passed away Monday, December 24th at The Cottages in Detroit Lakes surrounded by family.

Bernie was born on October 5th, 1938 to Simon & Mary (Meier) Aberle in Edgeley, ND.  She was raised on a dairy farm south east of Edgeley and graduated from Edgeley High School.  She always joked that she opted to do dishes with Grandma so her sister Marie had to milk the cows.

After High School, Bernie moved to Fargo and began working at the phone company, where she met many lifelong friends.  It was through a friend that she met her “Norwegian” partner, Charles (Charlie) Larson.  They were married on June 2nd, 1962 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Lake Park, MN.  They had kept the wedding quiet except to only a couple people because of Charlie’s fear of crowds.

Bernie worked at home raising 4 children and keeping house until the children had grown.  She then began a career working in the kitchen at Sunnyside Nursing Home, where she spent many years preparing meals for the residents there.

Bernie’s hobbies included gardening (they kept a 3 acre vegetable garden), taking care of her flower gardens, and in the winter months, putting jig saw puzzles together and reading.  She enjoyed her family very much.  Bernie and Charlie enjoyed a life together of laughter and jokes and making the best of times for their children.

Bernie is survived by 4 children, Steve Larson, Sheila Bergquist & Kevin (Tracy) Larson, all of Detroit Lakes, and Keith (Julie) Larson of Elizabeth, Colorado, along with 6 grandchildren, Brittni & Sadie Larson, Justin & Ashely Bergquist, Nick & Katie Larson, Kellen Gomon, & Krista Anderson.  Her sister Marie & her husband Victor Lagodinski of Edgeley, ND.  Sisters in law Sharon Aberle of Edgeley, Gloria Aberle, Shirley Aberle of LaMoure, ND, Donna Aberle of West Fargo, ND, Inez Larson of Rothsay, Eudell Larson &  Mavis Larson of Hawley and brother in law Stanley Wald of Lisbon, ND., plus many nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by her “dumb Norwegian” partner in life, Charlie Larson, parents, Simon & Mary Aberle, her brothers Adam, Simon, Oscar & Larry Aberle, sisters Lil Crowley and Irene Wald, Father & Mother in law Jentoft & Lillian Larson, brothers in law Albert, Walter & Ernest Larson, Alvin Norman, Donald Madson, Jim Crowley, sisters in law Alice Madson, Leona Norman, a grandson Chris Gomon, and several nieces and nephews.

She will be dearly missed by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Lake Park, MN, with a visitation starting at 10:00 A.M.
