Bernard H. "Andy" Anderson, 93, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in MeritCare Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.Bernard was born on June 26, 1915, near Pelican Rapids, MN, to Carl J. and Emma Bondly Anderson. He grew up and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army, Second Armored Division in Reconnaissance. He received a battlefield commission to Second Lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor on August 11, 1944. Bernard married Marcelle Haarsager on March 29, 1947, and they lived in Valley City, ND until 1951, and then Grand Forks, ND, where he was District Manager for J.I. Case. He retired in 1982 and they moved to Moorhead, MN. He and Marcelle enjoyed summers together at their lake cabin on Lake Lida. Marcelle died on August 5, 2005. Bernard was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, a life member of the V.F.W., former member of the Elks, and American Legion and belonged to the 2nd Armored Division Association. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals and children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.Bernard is survived by two sons, Collin January Anderson, Maple Grove, MN, and Richard Anderson, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Rogene Peter Danielson, Okoboji, Iowa, Jerilyn Craychee, Fargo, ND, and Jolene Scott Grovum, East Grand Forks, MN; one brother, Amos Anderson, Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelle; his parents, three brothers, Peter, Conrad, and Eddie; and a sister, Alice Kvamme.
