Bernice Garden was born January 23, 1908 to Edwin and Mary Ose Garden in Gary, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in faith at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, MN. She grew up in rural Gary, MN, attending country school and then Mahnomen High School, graduating in 1925. After high school Bernice attended Moorhead Normal School MSUM and fulfilled requirements to teach elementary school. On November 27, 1930, Bernice married Carl Sather at her parent's farm home near Gary, MN. She was a farmer's wife, a mother and later returned to teaching during the Second World War in the Keene Township, rural Ulen, MN, country schools. She continued her education by earning her Bachelor's Degree in 1956 and her Master's Degree in 1965, from Moorhead State College. After retiring from farming she taught in elementary schools in Moorhead until retirement. In 1973, they moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, and she was involved in Adult Education. They later moved to Tucson, Arizona and then to Northfield, Minnesota. Carl passed away in 1994 and she moved to Moorhead in 2003 to an assisted living facility to be closer to her family.Bernice is survived by her children, Marilyn Arley Klemetson, Erling Beatrice Sather, Sylvia Burtness, Allen Genelle Sather, Connie Nokken and Ronald Sather; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Elvern Shirley Gunderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; son, Carlton; daughter-in-law, LaVerne; son-in-law, John Nokken; two grandsons, Randy Sather and Scott Klemetson; her parents; her sister, Elsie; and a nephew, O'Doyle Gunderson.
