Berwin “Bud” Merle Purrier, 94, formerly of Hawley, MN, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, June 15, 2018 in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND. Bud was born on November 6, 1923 to Lee and Gertrude (Bergeson) Purrier in Macrorie, Saskatchewan, Canada.
When bud was two years old, he and his family moved to the states near Hitterdal, MN. When he was older, he worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Navy. Bud served our country with the Navy from 1944 to 1946. After his service, Bud bought a farm near Hawley, MN where he farmed for four years. He then began his career in trucking, working for several trucking companies until his retirement in 1987 accumulating nearly 4,000,000 miles. In July of 1952, Bud was united in marriage to Esther Johnson in Hawley, MN.
Bud was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, cross country skiing, and most of all, spending time with his grandson, Jacob. A highlight in both their lives was the trip they shared to Washington, D.C. for “Honor Flight.”
Bud is survived by his daughters, Monica Purrier and Melody (Bob) Margheim; grandson, Jacob (Alyssa) Purrier; siblings, Joyce Slobodnik, Dennis Purrier, Jim (JoAnn) Purrier, and Lee Purrier; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Gertrude; his beloved wife, Esther; children, Audrey Olson, Donald Burnside, and Neil Burnside; siblings, Dorothy Bodwell and Dale Purrier.
Visitation with family will be from 10:00AM-11:00AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:00AM at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, MN, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
Bud donated his body to the University of Minnesota to help further the education of those going in the medical field.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th St. S., Fargo, ND 58103.
