Bessie I. Suedel, 92, of Sabin, MN, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.
Bessie Irene Smith, daughter of Waldo and Rose Smith, was born in Lake Park, MN on September 10, 1923, where she grew up and attended school, graduating in 1941.
She worked several jobs in Fargo including Wood Brothers and Gleaner Harvester. She also attended Interstate Business College in Fargo.
Bessie was united in marriage to Andrew Suedel on February 3, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN. While Andrew was in the service, Bessie worked at the U.S.O. office at Fort Riley, KS and Fort Know, KY.
After returning to Sabin, Bessie worked at Heisler’s Grocery and the Post Offices at Sabin and Baker, MN as a bookkeeper. Later, she worked afternoons at Trinity Lutheran Church and mornings for Harvest States Grain Elevator in Baker for 13 years. She then began working full-time as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church for the next 33 years, retiring in 1992.
Bessie and Andrew enjoyed spending time together camping, hunting and fishing. For the last few years, Bessie was very active in the Quilting Committee at Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one son, David Jody Suedel, of Sabin; two grandsons, Jon Jessica Suedel, of Detroit Lakes, and Ryan Kelly Suedel, of Bentonville, AR; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 4 sisters-in-law, Ginny Smith, of Hudson, WI, Verna Bloom, of Lake Park, Betty Smith, of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Grace Bloom, of Muskogee, OK; her brother-in-law, Earl Roesler, of Leonard, ND and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 5 brothers, and her husband, Andrew, who died in 2005.
The family would like to thank all Bessie’s special friends who visited her while she was ill. A special thank you is also extended to the 4th floor staff of Rosewood on Broadway who treated Bessie with kindness and compassion.
