Betty G. Swanson

May 26, 1918 — January 14, 2012

Betty was born May 26, 1918, to Arnold and Betty Amundson in Superior, WI. She attended schools in Superior until receiving her teaching certificate at the age of 20. She taught school in the rural areas where she met Leonard Swanson in Cloverland, WI. They were married on March 8, 1941, and had four children. The family moved to Auburn, WA, in 1963, where Betty taught elementary school until she retired in 1980. She received her Bachelor's degree from Seattle Pacific College in 1967. After retiring, she did volunteer work for the Literacy program where she was awarded volunteer of the year. Leonard passed away in 1996. Betty then moved to Sequim, WA, to be near her daughter, Beth Culhane and family. She continued to write which was her favorite past time. She moved to Hawley, and Moorhead, MN, in 2006, to be close to her daughter, Sharon Bortnem and her family. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; brother, Arnie Amundson; and nephew, Paul Vacha. She is survived by her son, Jerry Swanson and his wife, Georgia; daughters, Carole Lee Laswell, Beth Culhane and her husband, Jerry, Sharon Bortnem and her husband, Jim; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Murial Vacha; and many nieces and nephews.
