Betty Marie was born January 28, 1937 at Underwood, MN, daughter of Joe Thompson and Monica Boespflug Thompson. She attended school in Underwood, Elizabeth, and Breckenridge, graduating from Hawley High School in 1955. Following graduation she attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Betty was married to John Young, Jr. on May 4, 1956. They lived in the Hawley area most of their 52 ý years of marriage, except for the two years when John was in the U.S. Army. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Brenda in 1959. They returned to the Hawley area, and in 1961 their daughter Cindy was born. Betty worked at J.I. Case of Fargo, O.K. Diner, The Norseman Supper Club, and Riverside Inn, all in Hawley. She worked for a few years at American Crystal Sugar Company in Moorhead, and Betty and John leased and operated Hawley Lanes for two years. Betty was an active softball player and good bowler for several years. Betty was a beloved wife, mother & grandmother, and was very proud of her family. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; stepfather, Adolph Shebeck; one brother, Charles; a half-brother, Richard; a half-sister, Beulah; and a sister-in-law, Arlene. Betty is survived by her husband, John Young, Jr., Hawley, MN; two daughters, Brenda Anderson, Milliken, CO, and Cindy Mike Schenck, Hawley, MN; a brother, Joe Norma Thompson, Chicago; two half-brothers, Donald Thompson, Sedona, CA, and Robert Pearl Thompson, Morristown, TN; one half-sister, Maxine Halvorson, Dallas, OR; four grandchildren, Nichole Anderson, Travis, Aaron & Jeremy Schenck; one brother-in-law, Nolan Bea Young, Hawley, MN; one sister-in-law, Susie Dave Christensen, Hawley, MN; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
