Betty L. Mikkelson

Betty L. Mikkelson, 82 of Moorhead, MN passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Betty Lou (Schlueter) Mikkelson was born on January 29, 1941, in Moorhead, MN to Clarence and Frances (Krabbenhoft) Schlueter. She lived with her family in Glyndon, MN before moving to the Hawley area in 1945.

Betty attended District #7 country school and graduated from Hawley High School in 1959. She went on to Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She was employed at Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company in Fargo for 8 years. 

Betty married Ronald L. Mikkelson September 12, 1964, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, MN where they resided until moving to the Hawley area in 1969. They had three children, Debra (Marcus) Larson, Hickson, ND, Donna Mikkelson, Fargo, ND, and Donald (Jody) Mikkelson, Dayton, MN. Four grandchildren were born into the family also, Alexander, Nathanial, Gracie, and Katie. Ronald passed away on April 29, 1994.

Betty was a stay-at-home wife, mother, and homemaker while the family was growing up. She was a person that loved to cook, bake, clean, and sew for her family. In later years she was employed at the Norseman Supper Club in Hawley, the Lake Park-Audubon School, and Country Furniture in Lake Park. 

Betty was active in her church throughout the years as a Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild and Ladies Aid groups. She was Treasurer of the Highland Grove Church for a number of years.

She is also survived by two sisters, Helen (Brad) Nelson, Grand Forks, ND, and Linda (LeRoy) Lakeman, Moorhead, MN; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Burial will be in Highland Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hitterdal, MN.
