Beverly A. Rogers, 76, of Moorhead, MN died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.Beverly Olson was born the 1st of March, 1928 in Battle Lake, Minnesota to Rudolph Pete and Irene Olson. She was fun-loving and smart and had a bit of a wild streak, too. She loved to go dancing at Balmoral, a dancehall on Ottertail Lake, which is where she met her future husband, Merle Rogers.Bev and Merle Rogers were married at Concordia College in 1948 and by 1957 had four children, Sara Kuhry, Shawn, Leslie Tessie Smith and Elizabeth Betsy or Liz Rogers-Kading. In 1963 she began working at the Fargo Public Library, from which she retired in 1991.She was extremely proud of her four grandchildren; Lea and David Kuhry children of Sara and Louis Kuhry and Charlie and Alana Rogers children of Shawn and Brenda Rogers. It is virtually impossible to find a picture of Charlie or Lea wearing something not sewn by Grandma Bevie.Beside her family, Bev had two other passions- gardening and politics. She followed national politics closely, read many books and magazines, had strong opinions and loved a good noisy discussion. She was also an incredible gardener. Her backyard was a cool, green oasis even on the hottest July afternoons, and you could usually find her sitting amidst the plants and flowers weeding or pruning. Even after she was forced to use a wheel chair she continued to garden, sometimes just directing the activity, but she usually couldn't resist getting down to the ground herself.Adversity tests the mettle of any relationship, and Bev and Merle's proved to be exceptionally strong. Through her illnesses, no one could have been a stronger ally than Merle. No matter what happened, he was always at her side. Their dedication to each other is a comfort and inspiration to their children.Bev Rogers was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, daughter and sister. She was calm, generous and wise. We loved her so much. We will miss her greatly. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Olson. She is survived by her husband, Merle Rogers, Moorhead, MN; one son, Shawn Brenda Rogers, Vergas, MN; three daughters, Sara Louis Kuhry, Glyndon, MN, Tessie Clint Smith, Wolverton, MN and Elizabeth Walt Rogers-Kading, Vergas, MN; three sisters, Constance Olson, Vallejo, CA, Corrine King, Sedona, AZ, Alma Joe Sheppard, Battle Lake, MN and Marne Hoy, Albuquerque, NM; and four grandchildren.
