Beverly J. Carlson

Beverly Joanne Carlson, 82, of Wolverton, MN, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 13, 2014, surrounded by family and friends, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Beverly was born on November 10, 1931 in her Grandma Brink’s home in Horace, ND, to Oscar and Clara Brink Brakke. She graduated from Comstock High School in 1949. She furthered her education at Concordia College, graduating in 1953 with a degree in Home Economics and Physical Education. Beverly was also a member of the Concordia choir. On June 25, 1955, she married Carl P. Carlson in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN where she was also baptized and confirmed.

Beverly worked for 34 years as a teacher. She started her career working in Clinton, MN for two years then Evansville, MN for one year. She taught Home Economics for 31 years at Moorhead Jr. High, retiring in 1991. Beverly was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church and WELCA in Wolverton, MN. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who enjoyed family gatherings. She was an incredibly loving person, who touched the lives of all those who knew her. Beverly loved cooking, sewing, quilting at church, flower gardening, reading and crossword puzzles.

Beverly is survived by her children, Scott Gayle Carlson, Fargo, ND, Curt Karen Carlson, Moline, IL and Sara Wold Craig Tomasovich, Holmes Beach, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Carlson and Tyler Rachel Carlson; sisters, Helen Brakke and Eleanor Robert Brandt; brothers, Donald Dorothy Brakke and Norman Brakke; sisters-in-law, Rhoda Brakke, Shirley Brakke and Cecile Ellis; and many nieces and nephews and all of her dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl P. Carlson; grandson, Joshua Wold; parents, Oscar and Clara Brakke; brothers, Orris Lorraine Brakke, Milton Brakke and Gordon Brakke; sister, Mildred Delbert Evert; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sheila Brakke, Beatrice Phil Aigner, Edith and Emma Ingrum Lovas, Jean Carlson and Gordon Ellis; nieces, Carol Evert and Kari McLean; nephews, Rod Brakke and Lee Brakke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton, MN.

Visitation: Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton, MN.

Interment: Salem Lutheran Church, Wolverton, MN.
