Beverly J. Hicks

Beverly Jane Hicks, 91, of Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, October 17 at Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead, MN
Beverly was born on October 27, 1924 in Fargo, ND to Herbert and Louise Olness Hicks. Beverly grew up in Moorhead, MN and graduated in 1942 from Moorhead High School. She later attended and graduated in 1946 from Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead. While attending M.S.T.C., Beverly was active in the Language Club, Band, L.S.A., Student Commission, Kappa Delta Pi, and represented M.S.T.C in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
With no help to pay for college, she worked a variety of employment positions; clerical, retail and one, fondly remembered for years, a summer spent at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C.
She taught school in Park River, ND, Benson, MN, Sleepy Eye, MN, Jamestown, ND, Rice Lake, WI, and Moorhead, MN. After years of teaching physical education, history, and Spanish she retired and lived in Moorhead and Fargo.
Beverly was proud to have been a long-time resident of Moorhead, MN and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, where she helped with mailings, enjoyed working with the quilting group and time spent with her circle.
Beverly had a variety of interests and was an avid reader. She enjoyed current events, history and a good mystery with a hint of romance. She was a long-time member of the Fargo Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge where she enjoyed socializing, volunteering, and taking Norwegian language classes. Travel was also high on her bucket list as she visited many states, including spending part of one winter in Hawaii. The highlight of her adventures was a tour of Norway. Beverly was also a collector of cookbooks and recipes. She had dozens of cookbooks and hundreds of recipes clipped from magazines, newspapers or shared by friends taped into notebooks. Hundreds of clipped recipes are waiting in boxes to be put into notebooks.
For several years, Beverly kept a daily journal documenting weather, her activities of the day and newsworthy events.
Beverly is survived by special family members, Caroline Swenson and Caroline’s children, Arnell Dave Becker, Lisa Jim Johnson, Jody Stetz, Meloni Swenson, Lona Dean Halverson, Deric Melissa Swenson and many other loving relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.
Services will take place on Thursday, October 27, at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead with a visitation 1 hour prior to services. Burial will take place at Clara Cemetery near Comstock, MN following services.
