Bill E. Quenette

July 20, 1933 — February 28, 2013

My Bill passed away on Feburary 28, 2013. He was the love of my life. Bill was born July 20, 1933 in Fargo, ND to William E. and Clara Dalseg Quenette. At 2 years of age the family moved to West Fargo, ND where he attended school and was a star athlete and school leader, graduating with the Packer class of 1951. That fall he entered Concordia College, Moorhead, at the urging of Jake Christiansen, starred in basketball and after two years he enlisted in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, where he played basketball, baseball, and football for the 4th Division Special Troops. In 1955 he returned to Concordia where he was captain and stand out multi-sport athlete in baseball, football, and basketball. I met Bill in September of 1955 and what a handsome guy he was! We were engaged in December of 1955 and married August 19, 1956. Once Bill set his mind to something he wasted no time! Following graduation in 1957, Bill became a faculty member and coach at the college. In 1959 Bill and I, and our year old son, journeyed to Pullman, WA, where Bill earned his Master’s Degree at Washington State University. We returned to Concordia in 1960. In 1962 he was recruited as the first basketball and baseball coach at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington. In 1966 he was called to teach and coach basketball at Moorhead High School. He was head basketball coach from 1967-1982; also coaching baseball, girls basketball, football, and golf. He coached as a football assistant at Shanley HS and basketball assistant at Concordia. I loved every minute of being his number one cheerleader throughout 47 years of coaching! My Bill loved his family. He was a patient, humble man, proud of his teams win or lose and proud of the many awards he had received, the most recent being inducted into the Minnesota State High School Coaches Hall of Fame. Papa, as his grandkids called him, had a sense of humor appreciated by them, his coaching buddies, and sometimes by me! My Bill also loved golfing, fishing, traveling to the beaches of Washington and Oregon, watching son Mark coach, his grand-dog Q, talking old times with his coaching buddies Bolg, Rex, CR, and former players, but most of all being with his family at our many team celebrations. Coach Q is survived by me, his wife Andy of 56 years, David Avis, Suzanne Sam, Dr. Stephen Nikki and Mark. Grandchildren: Dakota, Madison, and Matthew. Brothers: Curtis Jeanne and Glen. Brother-in-law Rod Anderson, sister-in-law Sandy Bill Krebs, three nephews and his fun Norske cousins. His Godchildren: Sonja, Joel, Sandy, Kim deceased, Jeff and Betsy, and special sweetheart Wendy! He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Bob Anderson, brother-in-law Jon Fraser, and niece Kim Quenette, many loved aunts and uncles, and his cobber buddies Sonny and Finn. My team and I are most grateful for the care given to Coach Q at Sanford’s 3rd floor by the doctors, R.N’s and aides this past year; also to Bolg, Rex, CR and “Miss Meritcare” for being good “coaches” to Q, encouraging him through the “game” he was fighting to win! God keep you my love, when I reach the age of 95 years I’ll meet you on the 18th green in heaven. I love you more than jelly beans. Soli Deo Gloria. Hugs, Andy
