Carl Alfred Sahlberg, 86, of Hawley, MN, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN.
Carl was born February 11, 1930 in Hitterdal, MN, the son of John and Martha Schmidke Sahlberg. Carl graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1948. He married Bea Sather on November 26, 1951 at Keene Lutheran Church. Carl began working with Harold and Roy Sellin at Sellin Brothers Construction, retiring after forty years. He enjoyed building roads throughout Minnesota and North Dakota and could remember jobs, dates, weather and dirt conditions from most of those jobs until late into his life. He had many interesting stories. Carl and Bea enjoyed traveling the United States including Hawaii. They drove many miles visiting friends and relatives in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia and Alaska to name a few. They also traveled overseas to Germany and Norway.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his brothers, Chester, Gordon, George, Elmer and Charles, sisters, Agnes and June, and son-in-law, John Wiedeman.
He is survived by his children, Stewart Becky of Monticello, MN, Steven Roxanne of St. Simons Island, GA, Greg LaVaun of West Fargo, ND, Sherri the late John Wiedeman of Lake Park, MN, Sheila Sahlberg of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Gaylan Kaye of Hawley, MN; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral: Saturday, February 27, 2016, 11:00 a.m., Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, MN.
Interment: Salem East Cemetery, Hitterdal, MN.
