Carol E. Godson

Carol Nelson Godson, 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at RiverPointe Senior Living Community of Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Carol Elaine Johnson was born December 25, 1927, to Oscar and Ida Erickson Johnson.  She grew up in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1945, where she was violin concertmaster for the school orchestra.  Carol went on to become a registered nurse, graduating from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1948.  Carol married Leo Donald Nelson in 1949, and they raised their family in Moorhead.  Leo passed in 1995, and in 1997 Carol married Richard Godson, a Canadian she had met while wintering in Mesa, Arizona.  He then summered with her in Moorhead, but passed away in 2010.

Carol was an active, lifelong member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, where she enjoyed quilting and played with the Bethesda Strings.  She also enjoyed sewing, square dancing with the Royal Squares, and traveling with the Valley Vagabond camping club.  While in Arizona she played with the Silverridge Pops orchestra, sang in the Ladies Barbershop Quartet, and enjoyed tennis.  With Leo, she traveled the world, visiting Hong Kong, Sweden, Hawaii, and Mexico.  They loved their lake place on South Lida lake in Maplewood State Park, where she was an avid gardener.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Debra Fogel, Moorhead, and son David (Sheila) Nelson, Jamestown; grandchildren James Fogel, Caroline Fogel, Shelby Nelson, Carly Nelson and Scott Nelson, and brother, Reynold (Mary) Johnson, Moorhead.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sons, Donald (1994) and Scott (1962), and son-in-law Bob Fogel (2006).

Visitation: Tuesday, October 16, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m., at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
