Carol L. Astrup

Carol Lou (Crowder) Astrup, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, January 1, 2018, at Ecumen Evergreens of Moorhead.

Carol was born on May 20, 1932, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Harry and Louise (Leiseth) Crowder. She grew up in Hibbing, MN, graduating from Hibbing High School in 1950.  She moved to Moorhead with her parents in 1950 and attended North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo.

Carol married Peter Astrup on April 27, 1952 at Moorhead. They made their home on the farm near Dilworth and raised four children there. They retired in 1977 and built a home on Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids, MN. They wintered in Arizona for many years. In 1989, they moved to Moorhead where they have lived since.  Pete died on October 2, 2016.

Carol was a long time active member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead, the Oakport Homemakers, C-400, and P.E.O. Chapter DR in Moorhead. She was a loving grandmother and delighted in singing, especially to her grandchildren.

Carol’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Ecumen Evergreens, Moorhead, MN, Hospice of the Red River Valley and Our Savior’s Lutheran for the excellent care that they provided for her.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Pamela), Dilworth, MN, Peter III (Nancy), Bozeman, MT; daughters  Diane (Robert) Scalese, Big Sandy, MT, and Sandra (Doug) Ustick, Houston, TX; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Jennifer, Lauren and Rachel Astrup, Thomas “T.J” (Elle) and Daniel “Buck” Scalese, Katherine, Jessica, and Carolina Ustick; great-grandchildren Sicily and Mesa Scalese; brother, Harry (Lois Dunphy) Crowder, Scottsdale, AZ, sister Louanne (Jim Wall) Crowder, Green Bay, WI; sister-in-law, Phyllis Crowder, Plymouth, MI; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, her sister, Pat Crowder Gulsvig; and her brother, Tom Crowder.

Funeral: Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation one hour before the service in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
