Carol Solum

Carol A. Solum, 95, Moorhead, formerly of Hawley, MN passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Eventide Nursing Home.

Carol was born June 4, 1923 in Fargo, ND to Arthur and Clara Fjaer. She graduated from Barnesville High School in 1941. She married Carl Solum in September of 1941. They farmed in the Rollag area until their retirement when they moved to Hawley.

Carol was very active in Rollag Lutheran Church, including circle, quilting and ladies aid.

Her passion was her flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed playing piano. She enjoyed working at Rollag Steam Thresher’s which she attended from the first year up until her health kept her away.

She loved her family and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities.

Carol is survived by four children, Charlene (Roy) Lessin, Siloam Springs, AR, Bernie (Karen) Solum, Moorhead, MN, Chuck (Heather) Solum, Canby, OR, and Phil (Ginger) Solum, Lake Park, MN; grandchildren, Joe Lessin, Lydia (Paul) Nast, David (Louise) Solum, Paul (Amber) Solum, Carl Solum, Emmalea Solum, Naomi (Joel) McLarry, Ashley (Lindsay Sims) Solum, Steve (Samantha) Solum, Dusty (Stephanie) Dorn, Tiffany (Hans) Pluntke; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl; two brothers, Charles and Odin; one sister, Lorraine; and a great-grandson, Waylon Solum.
