Carole E. Pederson

Carole Elizabeth Dagen was born on January 21, 1925 in Springbrook Township-Minnesota, to the late Reuben and Esther Wetterlund Dagen.

Carole was born at her parents’ home, with her grandmother, Sarah Dagen, in attendance. It was a stormy day, and Reuben took the horse-drawn sleigh to Karlstad to pick up Dr. John Turnbull for assistance with the delivery. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school at District 24 through the 8th grade, and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1943.

On October 25, 1944, Carole was united in marriage to Garner Pederson in a ceremony at her parents’ home. In November of 1944, Garner was drafted into the U.S. Navy. Following his service duty, the couple moved back to Springbrook Township where they made their home and raised their family of four daughters and one son.

Carole enjoyed friendships made while working outside of her home. The majority of her work-life was spent at the Karlstad Memorial Hospital, Karlstad State Bank, and Engen Drug.

She was a faithful servant in her church-life, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School, Ladies Aid president, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and pianist at Oslo Lutheran Church. At First Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader, choir member, and WELCA president.

Carole was an avid quilter, cake baker/ decorator, and loved entertaining her family on any occasion. She was a very loving and proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always felt and shared God’s goodness through difficult times and times of celebration.

Carole is survived by four daughters: Connie Nordin, Karlstad, MN; Lynnda (John) McNelly, Jackson, MN; Garnette (Dennis) Hanson, Newfolden, MN; Diedre (Jan) Nordin, Thief River Falls, MN; and one son: Jaeden (Lorie) Pederson, West Fargo, ND; Grandchildren: Eric (Martha) Nordin; Jed (Melanie) Nordin; Thomas (Betsy) Nordin; Renee (Tom) Andresen; Rachel (Michael) Ingebretson; Randy (Michelle) Hanson; Alan (Michell)e Hanson; Ryan (Holly) Stephenson; Chris (Andrea) Stephenson; Andriana Hanson; Britta Hanson; Kate (Cory) Anderson; Adam (Wendy) Nordin; Bailey (Sarah) Nordin; 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Marion Hougard, Bemidji, MN; one sister-in-law, Vernice Sandgren, Bemidji, MN ;and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers – Duane Dagen and Merle Dagen; four sisters-in-law – Lucille Olson, Alice Dagen, Dorothy Miller, and Adeline Ingebrigtsen; and four brothers-in-law – Harvey Pederson, Earl Hougard, Ingolf Ingebrigtsen, and Wallace Olson.

Carole Pederson died on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad, MN at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 13 days. May her memory be blessed.
