Carrie Marie Martin

Carrie Marie Martin was born in Brookings, SD on October 4, 1978 and died December 12, 2019 at Fairview University of MN hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

She was the first daughter (or No. 1 daughter she often stated) of Chad and Susan Martin, and was joined over the years by siblings Nathan, Erin, and Stacie.

Carrie moved with her family from Brookings to Moorhead, MN in 1982.  Growing up she attended Moorhead schools and Grace United Methodist Church.  Her first job was a Forum paper route.  She lived in Thief River Falls, MN for a time and worked at Arctic Cat.  In 2006 her precious daughter Hailey was born.  They returned to Moorhead soon after that and Carrie worked as a bartender and assisted with bookkeeping at Bismarck Tavern and Vic’s.   Eleven years ago she started her stint at AmVets Post 7.

Carrie was an independent, confident, big hearted person who cherished her family and treasured life-long friends.  She outwardly appeared tough as nails, but in reality she was always concerned with the down and out.  She would quietly lend a hand when she could.  Like her father before her, she was an expert at giving a witty comeback.  That dry sense of humor was her trademark.

She loved Sunday dinners at moms, attending scary movies with Hailey, annual lake trips with her siblings, and was a lifetime fan of Law and Order.

She adored her father and when he passed 6 years ago she never healed that broken piece of her heart.

Carrie is survived by her daughter Hailey Maysan Kraft, Fargo, ND, mother Susan Martin; siblings Nathan Martin (Katie), Erin Little (Matt), and Stacie Martin (fiancé Blake Hogenson) all of Moorhead, MN; Grandmother Virginia Martin, Rapid City, SD; nephews Jack and Ronnie Martin; nieces Avery and Taylor Little and Ellie Martin; 13 aunts and uncles along with their spouses; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Chad Martin, Grandparents; Harold and Lucille Gilbert, and Ronnie Martin:  Aunt Delores Gilbert, and Uncles Charlie Gilbert and Dick Carlson.

A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  The memorial service will be Friday, December 20, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., at the funeral home.
