Cecil M. Hanson

*The family of Cecil would like to express their gratitude to all who have sent condolences and shared special memories of Cecil.*

Cecil M. Hanson, age 92, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Bethany Homes On University, Fargo.

Cecil Melvin Hanson was born June 12, 1928 to Karl J. and Myrtle (Mollan) Hanson near Milton, ND. The family moved to Ada, MN in 1938. He attended country school and worked for area farmers and Land O’ Lakes Creamery. In 1951, he was drafted into the Army. He served 10 months in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Marjorie Thoreson on July 3, 1954. They lived in Moorhead and he worked at Stein Paint and Glass, Leo Lumber, and Moorhead Public Schools with 25 years at Riverside Elementary. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with family and special friends. He carved fish spearing decoys and was very proud to have several at the Fisherman’s Museum in Little Falls, MN. He kept in close contact with his Army buddies and attended reunions in several states.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son, Roger (Judy) of Pillager, MN; daughter, Jean (Jim) Boothroyd of Moorhead; daughter, Marcy (Ken) Novacek of Moorhead; son, Kevin of Moorhead: 6 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; brother-in-law, Ralph (Marilee) Thoreson of Zimmerman, MN; sister-in-law, Carol (Gary) Witte of Regent, ND; sister-in-law, Nancy Weflen of Plentywood, MT; and special friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; infant granddaughter; special friends; uncles; aunts; and cousins.

A memorial service for family will be held at 12:30 P.M on Wednesday, January 6. Friends are welcome to join the family via live stream on Cecil’s obituary page at www.wrightfuneral.com. Burial will take place at Fargo National Cemetery.
