Chad E. Martin

Chad E. Martin, 56, of Moorhead, MN passed away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on August 6, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Chad was born on August 29, 1956, to Ronald and Virginia Lawyer Martin in Huron, SD. He attended grade school in Hitchcock, SD, and moved with his family to Redfield, SD, in 6th grade. Chad graduated from Redfield High School in 1974.

He married Susan G. Gilbert on May 15, 1977, in Hitchcock. They moved to Brookings, SD where Chad attended SDSU, graduating in 1981 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Chad’s first job took them to Moorhead, MN. He began his career with the City of Moorhead on January 1, 1984, and became the Director of Operations. Chad was the ultimate mechanic…even his grandchildren would state “Grandpa can fix anything.” He personally built a four stall garage to house his tools and many projects.

Chad loved nothing more than to help a neighbor in need. He was a true friend to those he met throughout his life.

Chad is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Carrie Martin Rob Vilandre of Fargo; son, Nathan Martin of Moorhead; daughter, Erin Matt Little of Fargo; daughter, Stacie Martin Blake Hogenson of Moorhead; grandchildren, Hailey Kraft and Jack Martin; mother, Virginia Martin of Fargo; brother, Tom Deb Martin of Rapid City, SD. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, 11 a.m., in Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND. Graveside service will be held at Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock, SD.
