Charlene G. Okke, 78, of Hawley, Minnesota, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
Charlene was born December 29, 1935 in Moorhead, MN, to Andrew and Hester Daugherty Olsen. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, MN, graduating from high school in 1953. She married Fred Okke in June of 1953. Following their marriage they farmed and raised livestock cattle and later produce. Over the years she worked at American Linen, Super America and enjoyed working at Riverside and the Norseman in Hawley, but felt the best job she ever had was daycare. Charlene also enjoyed ceramics, playing cards, whist, and especially spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and honorary son, Jay Henderson.
Charlene is survived by son, Kurt Kathy Okke of Hawley, MN; daughters, Kim John Peterson of Breckenridge, MN, Debbie Randy Lass of Hawley, MN; foster daughter, Christine Bates; sisters, Lynn Lee Fisher of Pequot Lakes, MN, Ardith Langerud of Moorhead, MN, and Janet Rev. Milbert Kurtz of Mt. Ulla, NC; grandchildren, Curtis Christina Leach, Chad Lindsey Leach, Tyanna Dan Romas, Kyle Okke, Korey Okke, Kasey Okke, Jay Peterson, Nathan Bates and Amber Bates; great-grandchildren, Aiden Leach, Owen Leach, Autumn Leach, Brinsley Leach and Tydan Romas.
Special thanks to the staff at St. Catherine’s Living Center and Riveredge Hospice for the loving care they provided to our mother.
Memorial Service: Monday, October 6, at 2:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
Memorial Gathering: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Interment: Lysne Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
