Charles “Bud” Bernard Schmidt passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, in his home in Hawley, MN. Bud was born December 17, 1931, in rural Perham, MN, to Beno and Elsie (Zoborosky) Schmidt. He attended school in Perham and worked in the Perham area and then he enlisted in the US Army in 1950. He became a paratrooper and fought in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He received an honorable discharge in 1953. He married Anna Honer at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, MN, on December 28, 1954. The couple moved and traveled to various states in their early years settling in Hawley, MN, where Bud worked as a Highway Maintenance worker for the State of Minnesota retiring after 28 years.
Bud in his retirement years, enjoyed wood carving and being with his children, grandchildren and great–grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Kathleen (Lyle) Andvik and Debra Larson; grandchildren, Chad (Landi) Larson, Chris (Vicki) Andvik, Brett Andvik, Stephanie (Kevin) Sinner, Tim (Amber) Larson, Robbie (Kjerstin) Larson; great-grandchildren, Caidin and Bridger Larson, Mya and Liam Andvik, Brock and Briggs Sinner, Rylinn, Reed, and Rowen Larson, Stella, Odessa, Xaliia, and Aelssa Larson; siblings, Eugene (Linda) Schmidt, Judy (Joe) Whetung, Dennis (Sue) Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Bruce, Jack, and Dale Schmidt; and sister, Ruth Price.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue Friday, March 12, 2021, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Hawley, MN. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on Bud’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found.
