Charles “Chuck” Douglas McDonald, 87, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Chuck was born on May 9, 1934, to John and Katherine (Horan) McDonald on the family farm a mile west of Hawley, MN where he lived most of his life. Chuck entered the Army in 1953 and married Betty Louise Dauner on February 12, 1955. He was a salesman, craftsman, businessman, as well as a proud founding member of St. Andrew’s Church. Chuck enjoyed his extended family (he was a well-known baby-whisperer), traveling with siblings, spending time at Cormorant Lake, golfing, and hunting. He was full of curiosity, a life-long learner who loved to read and discuss ideas and enjoyed conversing on most any topic.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jeff (Sue) McDonald, Colleen (Lynn) Fundingsland, Julie (Jeff) Carlson, Robert McDonald, Trisha (Dee) McKenzie, David (Robin) McDonald; sisters, Margaret Ristvedt, and Sara (Glenn) Cook; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
Chuck was an ambassador of good faith and good humor, lighting up any space he entered. Many thoughtful conversations ended with a warm hug, including those that began with a first meeting! Chuck was curious and witty and expressed gratitude often. He will be sorely missed.
Chuck was preceded in death by grandchild, Rachel McKenzie; parents, John and Katherine; and siblings, James, Donald, John, Catherine, Mary, Barbara, Patricia, and Richard.
