Clayton Egland, 84, Perley, MN, died on Thursday, July 7, 2011, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Clayton was born on May 1, 1927, in Perley, MN, to Carl and Lillie Smerud Egland. His mother died when he was a year and one-half old, and his grandparents raised him. He attended school in Perley and graduated from high school at Borup, MN. Clayton worked for his uncles at the Smerud Garage in Perley as a mechanic. In 1967, he started his own business, Clay's Body Shop, in Perley, which he operated until retiring in 1999. Clayton married LaMae Peterson on December 18, 1959, in Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley, where they made their home. A charter member of the Fargo Red River Valley Horseless Carriage Club of America, Clayton loved collecting and restoring antique cars.Clayton's funeral will be in the same church where he was baptized, confirmed and married-Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley. He is survived by his wife, LaMae Egland, Perley, MN; son Lee Laura Egland, Fargo, ND; daughter, Cammy Aaron Bahner, Eden Prairie, MN; three grandchildren, Mike Kemp, Bergen and Brayton Bahner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Frances.
