Passed away November 2, 2024 at Sandford Medical Center in Fargo, ND under hospice with her best friend Barb Madison by her side.
Connie was born April 7, 1955 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Conrad and Jeanette Lundberg. She grew up around the Detroit Lakes, MN area and graduated from DLHS in 1973. She then attended college at Bemidji State where she obtained a degree in social work and education.
Connie was united in marriage with Robert Perdue August 6, 1977. She gave birth to a beautiful daughter Shalae July 14, 1980 which she adored! Robert and her ended their relationship in 1982 but stayed friends throughout the years. They would still meet up for lunch and sometimes have the grandchildren tag along. A few short years after her and Robert split, she met the love of her life George "Rick" Klopka. They instantly fell in love and started their life together. They were united in marriage in 1988. She also welcomed her perfect baby boy Ryan September 19, 1988. Ryan completed their perfect little family.
Connie loved her children unconditionally! They were her pride and joy, her best accomplishment in life. She had two grandchildren Skylyn and Ghaven that she absolutely adored. They were the light of her life and she was always bragging that she had the best grandchildren.
She worked at many different places over the years. She worked 20 plus years at the Detroit Lakes newspaper which she really enjoyed and made many great friends. She was also an amazing art teacher at Holy Rosary. Her most recent job was at Essentia Health until her health declined.
Connie was a woman of many interests and passions. She treasured time with family and friends, often sharing laughter and good times. Her commitment to the community was evident in her active role with the Lions Club. Creative pursuits like crafting and art brought her joy, as did shopping and staying active. She enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino, where she’d relax and play her favorite penny slot machines. Sister’s weekends were a special occasion, allowing her to bond with her sisters over fun and excitement. Her famous snicker salad was a beloved tradition, adding a touch of sweetness to every holiday and event.
Connie was the most kind, caring person to everyone that she would meet. Always greeted you with a smile even through her pain. She will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Connie was proceeded in death by her parents, her soulmate Rick, and her sister Valerie Dixon.
She is survived by her daughter Shalae Perdue (Steve), son Ryan Klopka, grandchildren Skylyn (Ryan) Perdue and Ghaven Derstine, step grandchildren Shelby and Brock, siblings Joe (Annette) Lundberg, Terrie (Robin) Branchaud, Rusty Lundberg, LouAnne (Curt) Iceman, Darcy Szathmary, Doyle (Jean) Mayberry, Elizabeth "Janie" (Vince) Kent, and William "Billy" (Lavonne) Mayberry, her very best friend Barb Madison and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1-2:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Detroit Lakes, MN.
