Curtis C. Morken

Curtis Morken, age 68, of Dent, MN, died after a courageous battle with stomach cancer, at his home on June 2, 2018, looking out over Marion Lake.
Curtis Clarence Morken was born December 21, 1949 to Clarence and Agnes Morken in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Curt grew up in rural Ulen, MN and graduated from Ulen High School in 1967. He later attended college at Bemidji State and Moorhead State, and spent a short time in the Army.  He was baptized and confirmed at Atlanta Lutheran Church.
Curt married the love of his life, Barbara Langerud, on July 3, 1971 at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal, MN.  They raised their daughters in Hawley, MN where Curt was on the school board, a member of Hawley Lutheran Church and earned his private pilot license.  They later moved to their dream location, Marion Lake, in rural Dent, MN. He started in trucking, working for Rodney Oxton in the early seventies, and later owned and operated Curtis Morken, Inc.  He continued in the trucking industry until his illness forced him to retire in 2016. He was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, family and many friends. In his early years he was active in bowling and later enjoyed golf in MN and in Arizona, where he and Barb spent many winters before purchasing their condo in Prior Lake, MN.  He so enjoyed being close to his grandchildren and supporting them in their many activities.
Curt is survived by his wife Barb; two daughters Nichole (Jason) Brenna, Savage, MN, and Danielle (Greg) Chapman, Prior Lake, MN; one sister, Sharon (Richard) Carlson, Shoreview, MN; two brothers, Donald (Shirley) Morken, Harker Heights, TX and Larry (Neva) Morken, Warsaw, MO; four grandchildren Reece and Anders Brenna, and Blake and Rachel Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Agnes Morken, and his oldest brother, Ronald Schennum.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 4, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., at Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, MN. Interment will take place at Atlanta Cemetery, Ulen, MN.
