Curtis Kermit Monson

Curtis Kermit Monson, 79, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Meadows on University, Fargo, ND.

Beloved father and brother, Curtis K. Monson died peacefully Monday, June 19th at The Meadows care center in Fargo, North Dakota. He was 79 years old.

Curt was born December 20th, 1943 in Morris, Illinois to Kermit and Clara Monson. In 1945 the family moved to a farm near Bejou, Minnesota where Curt lived until 1962. Curtis said this was a wonderful place to grow up and that farm life was interesting, exciting and fulfilling. Curt had fond memories of playing on the farm with his sister Kathleen. Together they helped in the fields and in taking care of horses, cows, and chickens.

After graduating from high school in Mahnomen, Minnesota, the family moved to Moorhead. Curt attended Moorhead state college for a time and had several jobs in the area over the years. Curt managed gas stations, drove the city bus, raced cars at the speedway, and worked for a security company with many different assignments in the Fargo area. A highly proficient pool player and good at darts, Curt played in local tournaments and sometimes worked as a bouncer. A gentle giant, Curt was a kind hearted person, always ready to listen and offer his help. Warm and friendly, Curtis never met a stranger. Playful, charming, humorous and witty, Curtis was a pleasure to be around.

Curt said his real joy and accomplishment in life was the birth and life of his daughter, Karianne. He said she was so beautiful as a child, and that he was so proud of her as she grew up. She was the great love of his life.

“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For we walk by faith, not sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:1,7,8.

Curtis is mourned by his daughter, Karianne of Orlando, Florida, and his sister, Kathleen of Orlando, Florida, and his many lifetime friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
