Dana M. Powers

Dana M. Powers, 60, Maui, HI, passed away May 24, 2015 at his home under the loving care of hospice and his companion Marian.

Dana Mark Powers was born in Breckenridge, MN, on October 30, 1954 to Dana and Grace Minnehan Powers. He grew up in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1974.

Dana went on to attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston where he participated in football and track and earned All American Honors as a defensive back and Honorable Mention as a running back. He was named team captain and was instrumental in two very successful football seasons. He was inducted into the UMC Hall of Fame in 2000. Following his stay at UMC, Dana went on to play football at the University of Nebraska and later transferred to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities where he studied education and coaching.

In 1981, Dana move to Maui and entered the Property Management profession where he worked until his retirement in 2014. He met Marian Feenstra in 1994. They resided in Kihei, Maui with his two Hanai sons, Les Johnson Dena, grandson Rycah and Cory Johnson Miranda, granddaughter Charlie. Dana was involved with Maui County Halii’maile softball league and the adult basketball league. He loved playing golf with the Triple X golf group.

Dana very much enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to visit Moorhead in the fall to see the colors and spend time with family, which usually included a fishing trip with his dad and brothers. He’d also make it a priority to attend the UMC homecoming football game.

He is survived by his loving companion Marian Feenstra, Maui, HI, three brothers; David Barb Olson Powers, Detroit Lakes, MN, Dale Kim Powers, Fargo, ND, Dewey Cathy Powers, Fargo, ND, two sisters; Diane Koole, Cushing, Mn and Denise Mike Anderson, Moorhead, MN, Ginni Powers wife of Dana C Powers and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Pete Koole.

A gathering to celebrate Dana’s life will be on Saturday, June 20th from 10:00 a.m. – Noon in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
