Darin John Nelson

Darin John Nelson, age 54, of Moorhead, Minnesota, formerly Perley, passed away on July 11, 2023. Darin was born on November 5, 1968, as the youngest of four boys to Robert and Evelyn Nelson.

Darin grew up on a farm outside of Perley, where he would eventually raise his family. He was baptized and confirmed in the Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley. He graduated from Norman County West High School in Halstad. He went on to attend MSUM Moorhead, where he met Stacy who he married on June 29, 1991.  They had three children. They welcomed their first-born son, Logan in 1995, followed by Lexi in 1998 and Lauren in 2003.  His children were his pride and joy. Darin was very active in their lives and loved spending time with them and watching all their activities and sports throughout the years. They spent many summer weekends at the lake where Darin would drive the kids around boating and then fire up the grill once they got back.  Darin worked as a mail carrier at the Moorhead Post Office for 33 years.  On top of his full-time job, he ran the Perley Bar from 2009-2013.

Darin was a hard worker, he was a jack of trades and completed various remodel projects in his homes. Darin had a kind heart that touched everyone he met. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, he would be sure to make your day with his quick wit and humor. He was a movie and music buff, quoting lines from movies and belting out Metallica and other hard rock tunes. He was an animal lover and spoiled his dog, Sadie. He will be missed dearly by all who loved him.

Darin is survived by his three children; Logan (Emily), Lexi, & Lauren; granddaughter, Layla; mother, Evelyn Nelson; three older brothers, David (Lorraine), Jim (Glenda), Jeff (LeeAnn); and 7 nieces and nephews and their families.

Please join us in celebrating his life at his visitation on Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 5:00P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead and funeral on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley. Burial will follow in Kirkebo Lutheran Cemetery.
